Another superb Midsummer Festival

What a great weekend of music we had! Despite the dodgy weather on Saturday, there was still a pretty good turnout. Sunday’s perfect weather more than made up for the previous day; lively crowds on both days obviously enjoyed the return of Castle Bytham’s Midsummer Fair after a two-year break – and what was perhaps our best-ever line-up of acts.

There are live recordings* of some highlights from Saturday’s music festival line-up at Iain richardsons live scene on Facebook and YouTube:

Back at last!!!

We are delighted to announce that Castle Bytham Midsummer Festival is returning this year, on Saturday & Sunday 18 & 19th June. Bythams Music is once again involved, providing a diverse and exciting programme of music for all tastes. More details below.

There will also, of course, be a feast of fun for all the family throughout the weekend, with a host of other attractions including Saturday’s 5k Chase trail run, open village garage sales, and guided walks; on Sunday the famous bustling Streetmarket will be further enlivened by entertainer Bill Brookman‘s fun and games, not forgetting the Dog Show and Duck Race!

Other highlights of both days are the Real Ale and Gin Bars, delicious BBQ and veggie food options, and exciting flypasts by historic aircraft from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. (See the Festival’s own website for full details.)

A full programme of music

Acts appearing on Saturday 18 June will include The Box of Frogs Djembe Band, Mark Stevens, The Loungers, Richard Durrant, The Dancing Wu-Li Masters, The Smokestack Blues Band, Idle Hands, Uninvited Guests and Groove Cartell

On Sunday 19 June we once again showcase some of our local talent with performances by, among others, Corby Glen Dance Academy, The Ruth Dutton Singers, The Stringlers, Chloe Lorentzen, Figure of Eight and The Undefined

We’ve got you covered!
And don’t forget, we now have our huge marquee, which means that bands and audience can all be under cover if, heaven forbid, it should rain! And if it is boiling hot (fingers crossed!) then we can all be in the shade. Either way, everyone wins!

Living history
Away from the main meadow site, and in keeping with the weekend’s medieval theme (primarily on Sunday), we will also have a wonderful array of historical re-enactors, including an alchemist, a bodger, touring theatre, a magician, archery, falconry, a coracle demonstration, lots of children’s activities and parade – and our very own knight in shining armour.

Hurdy gurdyAppropriate musical accompaniment will be by Tourdion, who will perform in the streets, entertaining visitors to the village’s ever-popular fair and street market on Sunday. In the village hall and two pubs – the Castle Inn and Fox and Hounds – the Lincolnshire Poachers will be performing. In the church, Village Voices, a local choir, will be singing their interpretations of medieval songs and music.

Watch this space!
Further bands and performers are still to be announced, so watch this space. Further details about the bands and the line-up will be in our special souvenir programme, which will be available just before the Festival. All timings are subject to change.

Can you help?
We are always looking for folks to come and help us put on the festival, so if you have a few hours spare before or over the weekend, do come and join in the fun.
